Welcome to the Happy Little Business Diary podcast! This podcast delves into the life and business of the small handmade business owner. There are lots of podcasts out there on business and lots on arts and crafting, but what about combining the two?
I wanted to take some time to do a little intro to what this podcast is about. I mean, I’m guessing that’s the purpose of all “episode 0s.”
A little background on me. I am a self-taught handmade jewelry designer and an illustrator. I launched my Etsy shop, Ahtee’s Designs, in 2010 and went full-time in November 2012. It’s been a really interesting roller coaster of a ride but I have loved every minute of it.
Before going full time, I was a manager for a children’s clothing store… which I ended up hating by the end of it. Before that, I worked for a book store that no longer exists. I did that for over 4 years. I held many different management positions and I use my retail experience in my business quite a bit.
Now, just so you know. I’m only 26 years old. So I’m still growing as an artist and business owner. There are lots of things I’m still learning about and struggle with. But that’s what makes it all so amazing and fun for me.
This podcast is starting off as part diary, part business advice.
I say “starting off” because you never know what this will grow into.
The diary part will lightly go over things I’ve been doing with my handmade business. I’m hoping you all will find something you can relate to or probably just laugh at. While the handmade community is growing every day, sometimes, we feel very alone. And I want you to know that I’m here, doing what you’re doing and trying different things just like you.
The business advice goes hand in hand with the diary part. I won’t share any tips and tricks I haven’t tried myself first. And I’ll even share with you what hasn’t worked. There might be more fail stories than I care to share, now that I think about it…
I’m also hoping you’ll email me with your questions. I’d love to hear from you and answer any business questions you have if I can. Now, I might not be able to. But I will try.
And if you have a tip or small success story that you want to share with everyone, I’d love to read that as well! Because when one of us succeeds, we all do. I really believe that. We need to support and help each other. We have enough trouble competing with big retailers so we shouldn’t be vicious with one another.
And that’s it! If you’d like to email the show with your questions, comments, or tips, please email me, Rose, at firstname.lastname@example.org
